To promote the fair treatment and equitable inclusion of refugee communities using organizing to achieve collective impact and policy change.
We envision a world where refugees are connected global leaders building trans-continental movement work to advance meaningful freedom for all.
The Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans (PANA) was founded in the recognition that the unique needs of San Diego’s growing refugee communities cannot be addressed by simple adjustments to existing ways of doing business. Instead, PANA uses an integrated advocacy approach to its research, public policy, and community organizing in order to build and leverage deep community networks, develop community leaders, and establish a civic engagement infrastructure for the refugee community.
Organizing + Policy = CHANGE
Positive social change occurs when individuals have an understanding of their personal experiences, they recognize & understand how political processes affect those experiences, and can work together to take action against injustice. Thus, PANA’s operating theory of change is Organizing + Policy = CHANGE. PANA creates space for refugee communities to prioritize and develop plans of action on issues of most concern to them without having their voices drowned out.
PANA is the first
PANA is the first and only refugee-focused research and policy organization in the state. We are committed to supporting refugees in their journey for achieving economic and social transformation. PANA is committed to working with refugee communities in owning their power to bring about social change at the local, regional and national level. Our mission is to promote the fair treatment and equitable inclusion of refugee communities using organizing to achieve collective impact and policy change.
