The focus of this conversation will be the importance of redistricting, the role of the Citizens Redistricting Commission, and the opportunity for members of our communities to serve on the Commission.
We have the incredible privilege of hosting Kathay Feng, the architect of California's Citizens Redistricting Commission, and Dr. Gil Ontai, a member of the first Citizens Redistricting Commission that drew state’s first independent maps in 2011. A representative from the State Auditor's Office, which oversees the Commission selection process, will be present to go over the application process with interested community members. Information on who is eligible to serve on the Commission can be downloaded here – please identify and encourage eligible community members to attend the #PowerHour and get assistance with the application process! The deadline for applications is August 9th.
At PANA, we are engaging in daily conversations about the upcoming 2020 Census and ensuring a complete count of everyone in our community. We know so much is at stake, and we want to make sure our efforts and energy around the Census translate into community engagement in redistricting and mapping a fair and inclusive future! Ensuring representation from our diverse communities on the Citizens Redistricting Commission is the critical first step in that process.
So please join us to learn more about the redistricting and commission application process, enjoy delicious tacos from our taco cart, and build stronger community bonds.
